New housing development on the cards
A SIX-ACRE site on the edge of Windsor Great Park in Englefield Green could be transformed into a development of 61 homes.
Fairway Homes has submitted plans to create a new access road to 6.8 acres of land at the junction of Wick Road and London Road, where it hopes to build a mixture of 39 two-bedroom, 16 three-bedroom and six four-bedroom homes.
Although the company has not yet submitted details, it has said it wants to build private,
intermediate and social rented units, at least 40% of which will be affordable homes.
This will be the third application the developer has submitted for the site, which under Runnymede's local plan is reserved to meet housing needs in the borough.
In 1999 and 2002 the company applied to build 47 homes on the land, but were turned down by Runnymede planners on the grounds that the houses were not yet needed.
Alan Fone, chairman of the
Englefield Green Village Residents' Association, expressed doubts over the need for more housing in the area and said: "It's a reserved site for housing, but I don't know why Fairway have brought it forward now.
"As far as I'm aware Runnymede Council have more than met all their current targets for housing."
