Pilot helps GB team win bronze medal
AN Englefield Green pilot has helped win Great Britain win a Bronze medal at the World Helicopter Championships, held in Germany this weekend.
Andrew Taee, who lives in Northcroft Road, flew in the 13th World Championship, held in Eisenach, this weekend with flying partner Squadron leader Mike Leader and, along with five other British pairs, helped the country win a bronze medal.
Andrew, a merchant banker who started flying 20 years ago as a hobby, said: "It's an outstanding achievement - we were up against some of the best flyers in the world.
"The Russians in particular are magical - they are all professional pilots and fly full time."
He added: "We actually very nearly pipped the German's to silver."
Andrew competed in events including precision flying, where a helicopter is flown at a precise height over a course and slalom, where a pilot must manoeuvre a bucket of water suspended beneath the helicopter through a series of poles.
This is the first international event which has seen the Great British Helicopter team win a medal.
