I can't wait for PM's memoirs

Posted by Kevin Barry on Sep 15, 08 02:52 PM in Local Authority

The Government "fully recognises the important social role of Post Offices" or so we're told.

Which is why I cannot wait to read our Prime Minister's memoirs giving his reasons why he ordered thousands of Post Offices to close.

The primary reason we were told, was - money - due to the fact that some branches were losing lots of it. This is exactly the opposite of what should have happened - imagine where this country would be today, if bosses of our high street megga stores closed them due to poor trading returns.

The intelligent solution is to organise more lines and opportunities, so that outlets can improve their sales and profit. Increasing business for local Post Office's ensures them, and their customers, a secure and happy future.

Sadly, this will be dismissed as the simpletons solution. To the Number Crunchers everything must be seen to be profitable and efficient, the weak and poor must fend for themselves.

This is what I should have told a lady who knocked my door and asked if I could help her. Her husband and herself both fit and active workers all their lives, suddenly find themselves unable to walk or drive any distance, the local Post Office, now located in Egham, is beyond their limit.

I promised to write to our Prime Minister and ask his advice. Do you think he will reply?

We'd like to hear from you.

A good question - please let us know if he does reply and what he says.
