Our Germans are better than your Germans......

This was said by comedian Bob Hope as the reason why the United States was ahead of the Russians in the race to outer space - The story goes that after the war the US and the USSR bribed top German scientists to work for them and win the race to be first to the moon. This thought occurred to me when reading about the current controversy over installing incinerators nationwide, hopefully to cure our rubbish problem. As that the majority of residents are vehemently against these factories, planning permission, it is thought, will be decided in the courts.

Which will mean Judge John Deed and colleagues will be lectured at from all sides by the expert witnesses hoping to present the winning argument. So, at the end of the day, it will depend on who has presented the most impressive set of facts and figures and opinions.
If I were a presiding judge I would pass the same judgement in every case - words to the effect of - My judgement is that I will allow for this incinerator to be built. But to facilitate this, a substantial sum is to be deposited with the Courts, so that any damage proved to have emanated from this site, will guarantee the site will be closed plus substantial damages paid to all who have suffered. If these incinerators are as clean as it is claimed then both sides will benefit. If they are not then the price of bad engineering will be paid.
