To Witness a Bloody Murder on a Lovely Summers Day is not nice.

It was the start of a perfect English summers day. Seated in the garden enjoying the hive of activity of the birds raiding the feeders, the bees raiding the flowers, the goldfish fighting for their food and head gardener (me) enjoying the best cuppa of the day. The roses and fuschias almost in full bloom, were giving a display of colour only seen in seed catalogues. This was the perfect setting for what we term as murder, but the animal kingdom seem to accept as normal life. It all started with mother Blackbird screeching her head off at the big bad Magpie sitting on the edge of her nest. Answering her call daddy B appeared, but before he could help, Maggie two chased him off, leaving mummy B beside herself with fear, but still game enough to have a go at Maggie one. Sad to say the end result was the same as it is every year - Blackbirds 0. Maggie's 1. The thing I don't understand about all this is why do the Blackbirds never learn? Every year they set up home, start a family, then forget that a big problem is on its way!

We'd like to hear from you.
