Your favourite local paper, The Staines & Egham News has changed its publication date.

The paper will now come out at your nearest newsagents on a Thursday each week, rather than on a Wednesday as previously.

Of course, all the up-to-date and breaking news for Englefield Green can also be found, plus much more, right here on the website too.

A man was trapped in a lift at the Savill Court Hotel on Friday September 25, around 9.30pm.

Firefighters from Egham released the man, who was unharmed and had been in the lift for around 20 minutes.

A female student was stuck in a lift for 30 minutes on Wednesday, September 23.

The incident happened around 11.30pm at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Firefighters from Egham were able to safely extract the student.

Council bosses will raise objections to aspects of BAA's Airtrack proposals as concerned residents have just a week left to lodge their own concernns.

When Runnymede Borough Council's Economic Development Commitee meets at the Civic Chambers in Addlestone on Thursday (September 17)night it will be reviewing and responding to the Transport & Works Act application submitted by BAA to begin building work on the Airtrack express rail link from London Waterloo to Heathrow Terminal 5.

The Runnymede Alzheimer's Society hosted its first ever Memory Walk on Sunday raising hundreds of pounds for the charity.

The free event drew in between 40 and 50 participants who completed the four and half mile walk around Virginia Water lake.

Observant viewers may have recognised a local landmark on television this weekend.

Royal Holloway, University of London's Founder's Building was featured in the first episode of new ITV2 drama, 'Trinity' which screened on Sunday, September 13 at 10pm.

The Founder's Building will provide the exterior and some of the interior shots of the fictional Bridgeford University, Trinity College.

Keeper of the Gardens at Windsor Great Park, Mark Flanagan, has written a book with Tony Kirkham of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew which is published on September 21.

'Wilson's China: A centure on' follows in the footsteps of the great plant hunter and collector Ernest Henry Wilson through China. Wilson introduced more than 1,000 species of exotic plants mainly from China to the west.

The pair retraced several of Wilson's journeys to create a series of 'then and now' images, with 100 years between them, of the remote Sichuan province.

Mark and Tony will be doing a book signing at The Savill Building on October 7 at 2.30pm.

The Haven Sure Start centre will be hosting a Teddy Bears Picnic as part of the national Sure Start Children's Centre Week.

More than 3000 centres across the UK will be hosting similar events.

For The Haven Sure Start, at the Jurgen Centre on Harvest Road, celebrity dad Jeff Brazier will give a talk to parent about the joys and challenges of parenting and talk of his new television programme Super Star Daddy, which will air in November.

Surrey Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team for the village has increased its patrols in areas with problems of anti-social behaviour.

More high visibility patrols have taken place near the rugby club in Kings Lane and more recently near St Jude's Cemetery close to Blays Lane and the new residential development after youths have begun concregating there in evening and at weekends.

A villager claims to have seen UFOs flying towards Heathrow Airport last month.

Dave Salsbury posted his sightings on UFO spotters website www.uk-ufo.co.uk after the incident which took place around 9pm on Tuesday, August 25.

He said he, his wife and mother-in-law had all seen between seven and 10 bright orange lights moving west to east across the sky.
