Icy Runnymede roads catch out drivers
Two lucky motorists escaped with only minor injuries after losing control of their vehicles in two separate incidents on icy roads last week.
The first incident took place on Monday, December 21, around 8.55am on Coldharbour Lane, Thorpe, after the driver of a black Volkswagon Passat, when the vehicle hit a patch of ice and collided with a road barrier.
Surrey ambulance attended the scene where they treated the male driver for minor chest injuries, before taking him to St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey.
The road was closed following the incident, but repoened again shortly after 10.50am.
Firefighters from Egham were sent to the scene of the second collision, which took place in Callow Hill, Virginia Water, near the Olive Branch pub at around 9.30am on Tuesday, December 22, after a pensioner driving a blue Citroen Xsara left the road before the vehicle come to rest on its side.
The firefighters recovered the driver, a female in her seventies from the vehicle and gave her medical attention for approximately 20 minutes until paramedics arrive and took over.
