A ROYAL Holloway Lecturer has spoken out against government plans to ban the legal drug mephedrone.
The drug that is said to have similar effects to amphetamines if ingested has been linked to 26 deaths in the UK in the past five months.
Concerned residents have the chance to air their views with beat officers at a panel meeting on Tuesday, March 23.
The meeting will be hosted by officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team in the police office in Ashwood Road at 7pm.
Residents are urged to come along and raise any issues or concerns they have about safety, crime or anti-social behaviour directly.
Star of BBC Radio 4's, The Now Show, Mitch Benn, is headlining this month's comedy night at the Social Hall on Harvest Road.
The March Comedy in the Green event takes place on Tuesday, March 23 at 8.30pm, doors from 7.45pm. Support will be from Elliott Tiney, Naz Osmanoglu, with Charlie Baker as MC.

A charity which sends medical staff to developing countries has opened a shop in Victoria Street and is looking for donations.
TLC (Transplant Links Community) opened the new shop on March 1 and is welcoming quality mechandise to sell (except electrical items).
TLC takes teams of doctors, nurses and surgeons to developing countries to help save the lives of people with kidney failure.

Popular spring attraction, the Savill Garden is inviting mum's to get in free on Mother's Day (March 14).
The gardens have stunning displays of blossoms in the spring, including daffodils and crocus with more than 15,000 bulbs having been planted.

Police officers have issued 140 fixed penalty notices for anti-social parking near Royal Holloway, University of London.
Students have also been advised where best to park after complaints from residents about cars parked obstructing road and footpaths near the college.
College security staff have also been patrolling road surrounding the school to issue leaflets to offending vehicles.
