M3 bridge death fall victim came from mental health unit
A MAN who fell to his death on the M3 near Virginia Water on Wednesday had been a patient at the Abraham Cowley Mental Health Unit.
Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust runs the unit at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey.
A Spokesman for the trust confirmed to the Surrey Herald that the man had been in the unit before Wednesday.
He said: "Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust offers its sincere condolences to the family for their sad loss.
"The Trust is assisting Surrey Police with their inquiries and will be conducting an internal review of the care and support provided to him."
The M3 was closed several hours after the man, who is in his forties, apparently fell from Bridge Road, Lyne into the southbound lane of the motorway at 5.15am.
A spokesman for Surrey Police said: "Surrey Police is appealing for any witnesses and in particular is asking for any motorists using the motorway in the vicinity of the incident location, between 5am and 5.30am, to contact officers urgently on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference RM/10/7554."
